Introduction
The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital began offering outpatient services in 2001 and established its inpatient ward in 2007, making it one of the earliest rheumatology specialties in Shenzhen. Over the years, the department has expanded its team and clinical services, significantly enhancing its reputation and influence. The department currently has 22 medical and nursing staff, including 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 2 resident physicians, with over 75% holding master’s or doctoral degrees from prestigious domestic universities specializing in rheumatology and immunology. The department has 24 inpatient beds, handles more than 40,000 outpatient visits annually, and admits over 1,200 inpatients each year.
Supported by the Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine, the department conducts extensive clinical and basic research on autoimmune diseases and collaborates with Sun Yat-sen University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on multiple research projects and academic exchanges. Over the past five years, the department has participated in or led more than 10 national, provincial, and municipal research projects and published over 40 papers in core domestic and international journals, including more than 20 SCI-indexed papers, with the highest single paper impact factor reaching 16.1.
Specialty Features
The department is a National Drug Clinical Trial Base and a National Internal Medicine Residency Training Base. It also serves as a master’s degree training center for Shenzhen University, Anhui Medical University, Shantou University, and Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while supporting clinical teaching for the Shenzhen University School of Medicine. The department leads and participates in multiple provincial and municipal educational reform projects. Several teaching staff have been recognized as Outstanding Clinical Mentors and have achieved excellent results in various teaching competitions.
